Golden Black Raku Matcha Bowl 樂茶碗
This is the gold leafed “Shimadai” matcha bowl, made by Sasaki Shōraku.
The piece is a Sokuchūsai-konomi utsushi — a faithful reproduction of a style favored by Sokuchūsai, the 13th grand master (iemoto) of Omotesenke.
Shimadai bowls are traditionally used for auspicious tea occasions, especially at the New Year. The gold counterpart is known for its warm, celebratory presence: the luminous interior catches light beautifully, while the form retains the calm, grounded character of handmade tea ware.
Each bowl shows natural variations in glaze flow, texture, and tone—these are part of the charm of ceramics made by hand.
