Edo Period Polychrome Porcelain Plate Pine and Crane
This is a polychrome porcelain plate from the late Edo period, Japan
(circa late 18th–early 19th century).
The center features delicate blue-and-white underglaze painting,
surrounded by a segmented composition of red, green, and gold overglaze enamels.
Motifs of pine and crane — traditional symbols of longevity, continuity,
and auspicious fortune — unfold across the surface in a rhythmic, radial design.
The combination of restrained blue-and-white with richly layered enamel decoration
reflects the mature aesthetic of late Edo porcelain,
created for both daily use and celebratory occasions.
