200 years old Polychrome Porcelain Plate (Tsugi Repair)
This is a polychrome porcelain plate from the late Edo period (18th–19th century Japan).
The center features blue-and-white underglaze painting,
surrounded by a radial composition of red, green, and gold overglaze decoration.
Motifs such as pine and chrysanthemum — symbols of longevity and continuity —
are arranged within a classic segmented design.
In pre-modern Japan, ceramics were not disposable.
When a vessel broke, it was repaired and returned to use.
The repair on this plate tells us that it mattered —
enough to be fixed, and kept.
